Drawings and Prints

While other departments have large quantities of prints and drawings, this department is unique because it has many prints and drawings. The drawings and Prints department specifically focuses on North American pieces and western European work produced following that period, the Middle Ages. The First Old Master drawings, comprising 670 sheets, were shown as a group in 1880 in the hands of Cornelius Vanderbilt II and launched the department. But, it wasn’t officially established into a separate department until much later.

Musical Instruments

Its musical instrument collection, comprising approximately 5,000 instruments from musical instruments from around the world, is unmatched among significant museums.
